Energy Efficiency

Local governments can do a number of things, both internally and in the community, such as:

  • Promote energy efficiency programs and policies for public facilities, equipment, and government operations

    • Energy data management and evaluation

    • Energy efficiency building standards for public buildings

    • Enact retrofit programs for existing public buildings

    • Implement energy efficient purchasing policies for appliances and equipment

    • Establish energy efficiency operations and maintenance procedures

  • Help residents improve energy efficiency in their homes by

    • Sharing resources/financing options like thru Focus on Energy

    • Partnering with org/utility to build EE, affordable homes or retrofit affordable housing

  • Incentivize/encourage energy efficiency in commercial buildings

As a partnership with the Cities of Middleton and Madison, the Efficiency Navigator program helps small apartment housing become more efficient while reducing operating costs to owners and utility bills for residents.
